Optical Fibre Preform Inpection System
|
Requirement
A system to automatically locate and measure the position and size of defects in an optical fibre preform (a glass tube about 1m x 60mm). Defects may be bubbles or scratches, and the system must discriminate between them. |
Solution
A PC Based sytem using custom software written with LabViewTM and IMAQ VisionTM. A standard B/W video camera is used. The Labview program reads serial numbers via a barcode scanner, acquires Images from the camera, controls the stepper motor to move the camera and senses limit switches.
The camera is moved along the length of the preform taking a series of still pictures of succesive segments. The segments are then joined together and the resulting image of the preform is inspected for defects. A list of the postitions and sizes of the defects is then generated.
