Online Particle Analysis
Requirement
To monitor and analyze the size and shape of particles on-line during a production process.
Solution
A 'waterfall' of a sample of the process stream of particles is viewed by the camera system. The particle 'waterfall' is illuminated from behind by a Phlox highly-uniform high-stability back-light. A Basler A601fc progressive scan, high resolution digital camera, set to have a high shutter speed to freeze motion, faces the 'waterfall'. Images are captured and analyzed by a Matrox 4Sight-II vision processor that is located next to the measurement station in the plant. A Particle Analysis custom module for Westplex's -SPECTEX- visual inspection package (written in National Instruments LabVIEWTM with the Imaq VisionTM toolkit), analyzes the image stream to measure the particle size, circularity and roughness of all particles captured in each image. The software dynamically performs statistical calculations on the cumulative image measurements to result in statistics that characterize the batch. A monitoring station, located in the control room, uses DataSocketTM communication to provide remote display and control functions.
